Danville Mall is getting into shape just as the holiday season kicks off. With a new anchor opening held Friday and other improvements, the mall will be ready to welcome the crowds.
The official ribbon cutting for Dunham's Sports was held Friday morning as hundreds of people lined up outside the store.
"We were thrilled to be able to have the Dunham's open before the holidays," said Coles Doyle, the marketing director for Hull Property Group, LLC, Danville Mall's owner. Store manager Ralf Davis said that the 95,000 square foot store welcomed a couple hundred people in the first hour with a "steady trickle" of customers. All eight check-out lines were opened for a full line of shoppers, he said. The store is offering specials all weekend and providing doughnuts and coffee to visitors.
Back inside the mall, other changes are taking place. Construction is nearly finished for the third set of escalators in front of JCPenney. "There are three sets of escalators which is really improving the circulation around the mall, which helps better the shopping experience for visitors," said Doyle.
